unable to delete vlan.dat from cisco 4948

hi,

i am unable to delete vlan.dat file from cisco 4948 switch, it gives message " %Error deleting cat4000 _ flash:vlan.dat (Permission denied).

what might be the problem

On these devices vlan.dat must always be on the flash, you can delete the content of the file using: "cat4000#erase cat4000_flash:"
