Understanding inbound outbound on interfaces

Hi,

I keep trying to udnerstand the concept and i would like some help for clarification. 

I am trying to monitor traffic that goes outbound to the internet on my home router Cisco 1801. When i say Outbound i mean data uploaded from my network to the internet.

I have made following drawing : 

So in this case i believe that i have to add following line (Netflow v9) on the Vlan1 interface :

ip flow monitor myMonitor input

Is this correct ? Could the same thing be accomplished by adding the netflow on the Vlan1 or ATM0.1 interface on output ?

I need to understand the concept since i also need to apply same thing to ACL list which needs to be applied to correct place.

Hope somebody could clarify this for me.

I was hoping this was an easy answer for the experienced one. Should this post be moved some other place or is it the right place to ask for such question ?
