Some client traffic is seen being received at the DR site when the traffic is
supposed to be received only at the Primary site being the currently active
site.
BACKGROUND:
1. The customer has two data centers (see attached file HA.PPT), one is called
the Primary Site and the second one is called the DR Site. The current state is
that the former is active while the latter is inactive. The Primary Site, being
the active one is expected to have the traffic for the users. On the other
hand, the DR is inactive and no client traffic is expected to be visible there
but then there are client traffic that are appearing to be recieved at this
end.
2. The Primary Site and the DR site is connected to different switches (all are
WS-C6509-E), but both sites are sitting in the same subnet 10.51.22.0/24. The
clients who are accessing the servers are sitting at the subnet 10.51.22.0/24.

3. There is a virtual IP (logical IP) that is attached to the servers at the
active site (active site is currently the Primary Site). In the event of
failover, from Primary Site to DR Site, the activation is being done by manual
intervention, that is, the virtual IP is going to be deactivated at the Primary
Site and then to be activated at the DR Site. Only then the DR Site is expected
to have the client traffic.
4. The servers, either at the Primary Site or DR Site, is running on Solaris 9,
with Oracle Rac 9.2.0.8.
5. The clients are running on Solaris 9 with Weblogic as Oracle client.
6. Attached is the traffic capture taken from one of the servers at the DR
Site.
7. Attached is the show-tech from the Cisco Catalyst switches.
QUESTIONS:
1. Considering that the DR site is inactive, it is surprising to see that
client traffic is being received at this end. Any explanation on this? This
situation is causing slow response on the application.
2. Is there anything wrong in the configuration of the L2/L3 switches?

Do you see any asymmetric routing.Please track the return path.It could be that one of the switches flood the traffic due to missing entry in the CAM table.If so you need to tune the ARP time out value.
