Hi,

can someone help me with this problem?:

I have a cisco network with 20 branches and a central site. In my network is a device with address 169.254.X.X, what is a address for computers that haven't assigned DHCP address. I need physically find this computer and renonfigure it, but where is it???....how can i find it?

Any idea?

thanks

Re: unknow device

169.254.x.x is an adress that a windows machine configured with DHCP assigns by default when it is unable to contact the DHCP server.

I dont think there is any way to identify it.

Re: unknow device

Hi,

I see it on my logs from PIX. Here is the record:

%PIX-4-106023: Deny udp src outside:169.254.18.31/137 dst inside:172.20.X.X/137 by access-group "FromOutside"

???

I think there is one solution .... to find MAC address....then the switch...then port
