updating cisco ios software on the router or switch

I'm trying to update the cisco ios software on my router 2500 series and the 24 switch? I bought these routers off ebay

please help.

Please update the 'sh ver' of the devices as 2500 series have many models

but cisco asking for maintenance contract# to give me access to the software update.

Hi,

Its pretty much same on all cisco devices. You need to download the correct version that you want to upgrade to from CCO on to your PC. Have connectivity between you PC and switch and then run a command on the switch "copy tftp flash:" command on the switch.

Podhillo and JayaKrishna have given good information about the process of updating software. But there is an aspect that they have not mentioned which may be an issue that impacts the original poster. To download software from Cisco web site requires a maintenance contract. Routers and switches bought from Ebay would not have a maintenance contract.

I have tried that yesterday, cisco is asking me for maintenance contract# or if i purchased the router from them, give them the invoice number so they can let me download the software update. thanks
