firmware from hybrid mode to native IOS mode.

Anything about these items I should concened?

1/ whether there is any limitation with this upgrade plan likes

2/ any module is not compatible or

3/ additional memory is required.

Alex,

Wonderful, You have all fabric enabled modules in the Chassis. They are capable to run at 32 gbps and 256 Gbps switching performance, depending upon the SFM (switch fabric module) used. You currently dont have SFM installed in the chassis, so the chassis will be working on 32Gbps. Once you will move to Sup720, it has a SFM builtin and you chassis throughput will increase to 256 Gbps. All the line cards will be able to scale upto 256Gbps depending on the DFC( distributed feature card ) used.

Please paste the " show environment " from your chassis. This is to check the current fan try being used in the chassis. You need High-speed fan-tray (WS-C6509-E-FAN) with Sup720 and if its already installed (as you are running 6509-E) then you really dont need to worry. All you prsent line cards are compatible with Sup720.

Please see the release notes below for checking the minimum/recommended IOS version required for these modules to run with Sup720.

To run 6516A-GBIC you need atleast 12.2(14)SX

You are running 6548-GE-TX 10/100/1000 module.I also see that you are having a POE daughter card for 6548 modules and you need atleast 12.2(17a)SX to get the card recognised and the complete module to work.

I would recommend you to request for the latest IOS release on your Sup720.

HTH,Please rate if it does.

Alex,

1.As such there is no limitation but you should check the software features and hardwares supported in both the OS's. Please see the link below for the same.

2. Please check the link below for the same.

3.Sup720 comes bydefault with 512MB Ram and 64MB Flash. You should be fine with the memory stuff on this.

Please see the link below for major differences between the Hybrid OSi.e Cat OS and Native IOS.This also lists the different hardwares supported in CatOS and Native IOS.

Hi Alex,

If you are planing to upgrade 6509 chassis from sup2 to sup720, kindly find below some important points to be considered:

1) If your chassis are 6509 and not 6509E, you need to upgrade your FAN tray as Sup720 is not supported with the default fan tray of previous 6509 chassis.

2) You may also need to upgrade your power supplies. CCO recommends minimum of 2500W power supply for 6509 chassis.

3)Kindly note that if you are using previous generation cards, then even after upgrading to sup720 would not increase the bandwidth for the previous cards but you will definitely get high set of features.

4) Also if you are currently using fabric enabled cards, you might need to upgrade the DFC's for these modules in order to get the optimum performance with sup720.

5) As far as memory is concerned, sup720 by default comes with 512MB of flash as well as DRAM.

Please find below the link which would further clarify your questions:

Alex,

In addition to manmeet's post, Please paste the "show version " and " show module" from your chassis and it would help us understading better the hardware you currently have on the chassis.

Hi Singh,

Hi I am new at this, but what exctly do you mean by "Line Card"

Stuart,

Line card is basically the module which goes inside the slot of modular chassis. The chassis we are talking about here is a modular chassis with 9 slots to put the linecards or modules. For example a 48 port 10/100/1000 line cards.

Please see the various modules/line cards avilable for 6500 slots.
