Upgrading Cisco Switch IOS

I need to upgrade a Switch from Standard to enhanced version of IOS. Can somebody help me with a procesure? Do I need only to copy the BIN file to the Switch and remove the old file or is there something else?

Hi

You need to load the .bin file onto your switch which is enough to upgrade the ios code.

But do make sure that you are having backup copy of your current ios code as well as your config taken before reloading the switch with new ios code.

If your flash is capable enough of accommodating both the IOS .bin files then upload the new .bin file without deleting the old one and change the boot loader value accordingly.

Bootloader will help you to boot with the required IOS code if you have multiple ios (.bin) files in your device..
