Hi,
I would like to implement uplinkfast in our environment. My question relates as to whether Uplinkfast will force spanning-tree for all vlans to use a certain port.
We have 2 core switches running HSRP. We also have mutliple VLANs. To improve performance we have split the root bridges. For example
For vlan100 Switch A is HSRP-Active and Root Bridge
For vlan101 Switch B is HSRP-Active and Root bridge
For vlan102 Switch A is HSRP-Active and Root bridge
For vlan104 Switch B is HSRP-Active and Root Bridge and so on....
If i look at spanning tree on an aggregator switch i can seen that each of the two uplink ports is being used. The selection of which port to forward and block is based on the root bridge priority for that vlan. So for vlan101 uplink1 might be forwarding and for vlan102 uplink2 might be forwarding.
If i implement uplinkfast is it possible to continue to use both ports (in blocking and forwarding dependent on vlan) or will uplinkfast force all vlans to use one physical port?
Thanks in Advance
Andy

UplinkFast won't change the way your network is working currently. UplinkFast is a Cisco specific feature that improves the convergence time of the Spanning-Tree Protocol (STP) in the event of the failure of an uplink.

Doesn't affect spanning tree in the way it works , uplink fast was a precursor to the current rapid spanning tree that is now used which would also be a option if your equipment is using new enough code .
