Using filtered output as a command parameter.

I want to dump the contents of the ACL applied to the vty section regardless of name or ID by using the filtered output of another command but I can't seem to find the right syntax.  Does the subshell the feature that would allow me to do this? If not, in addition to the help above do you have a good example of a non-invasive use of the subshell?  I've searched all over but I can't seem to find anything that helps.  I've attempted the command below without success.

show ip access-list {!|:![show run | section vty | inc class | cut -d ' ' -f 4}
