Using Switch ports in 2800 problem

This is interesting and it is funny we have never run into this before....

I have a 2800 series router with a 4 port Ewic PoE card.

I want the 4 ports of the switch to belong to the same vlan as the physical port FE0/0.

This seems to be a problem when creating VLANs. On the Physical port FE0/0, because it is a layer 3 port I must create a sub-interface. but on the swtich ports, I must create a VLAN interface.

The issue is that when I assign the IP address to the Subinterface - the switch ports do not work and when I remove the IP from the sub interface and assign it to the VLAN interface the switch ports work but the FE0/0 port does not.......

We have even tried bridge groups, but that does not seem to work either....

The question is - can we get the 4 port switch card and the FE0/0 port all working in the same vlans and if so, how??

Thanks,

Heath

Re: Using Switch ports in 2800 problem

The answer is to bridge both interfaces together. Makr a BVI interface and assign it the IP for the vlan which you want to bridge together.

Then assign each port as a bridge-group member. In this case you would make the fa0/0 a member of the bridge group, and the interface vlan 1 as well.

Do you have some bridging config which you can show?

Thanks

Michael
