Hi..

There is lot of confusion about checking interface  circuit utilization. While checking utilization of circuit terminated on an interface, should it be input rate or output rate or total of both.

Suppose i have 40mb MPLS circuit terminated on interface and below is input rate & output rate of interface. So how much would be utilization on this circuit.  Pls make me clear.

 5 minute input rate 9062000 bits/sec, 4525 packets/sec
  5 minute output rate 34133000 bits/sec, 5611 packets/sec

Hi,

40mbps mpls circuit means, link can carry 40mbps traffic in both direction. At a time you can receive 40mbps traffic and send 40mbps traffic. In the given example link is 85% utilized in outgoing direction and incoming direction 22% utilized.

Hi Akash..so if suppose outgoing traffic becomes 100% utilize and incoming  40% then only uploading data should be affected not downloading. correct?

If you have unidirectional traffic then yes inbound traffic should get affected with outbound congestion
