VIC-2BRI-NT/TE activation problem?

Hello,

I have a probleme to activate VIC-2BRI-NT/TE on Cisco router 1751V. I don't know what's happen because I think I made all the things to activate this card. Can you help me?

See in attached the output of show isdn status and show ip interface brief.

Thanks for your help.

Hi ,

If you are connecting to the Central Office you need to rebuild your configs like this:-
You are the user end not the network

!
interface BRI2/0
shut
 no isdn protocol-emulate network
 no isdn layer1-emulate network
 isdn point-to-point-setup
 isdn static-tei 0
 isdn incoming-voice voice
no shut
!

Depending on whether your service provider has set your lines for point to point or
point to multipoint you may need to remove the static tei

(In the UK for voice on ISDNse usually ask for point to point as
this caters for DDIs etc)

!
interface BRI2/0
shut
no isdn point-to-point-setup
no isdn static-tei 0
no shut
!

Use a isdn straight cable (They are colured orange and should have delivered with your router)
If you do not have the orange cables then a straight cat 5/6 cable should suffice
between your router interface and the service NTE.

Hope this helps

Hi,

From your output

Gateway-2(config-if)#do sh isdn status
Global ISDN Switchtype = basic-net3
ISDN BRI2/0 interface
        dsl 0, interface ISDN Switchtype = basic-net3
    Layer 1 Status:
        DEACTIVATED

The issue is at LAYER1

Layer 1 Status:
        DEACTIVATED

means you have a cable/wiring issue between your port and your ISDN service NTE

Alex

Regards, Alex. Please rate useful posts.

Now I have layer 1 active, but when tried to enter interface bri 2/0:1, he puts

% Cannot access B-channel interfaces

So how can I get access to B-channel interfaces?

Hi,

This is VIC so you are using it for voice.

You do not configure the B channels

You need to configure the voice port

May be explain what you neewd to do and share your config with us

Hi,

Try adding this.

This should allow you to use both BRIs for outbound & inbound calls

!
dial-peer voice 1 pots
preference 1
 destination-pattern T
incoming called-number .
 direct-inward-dial
 port 2/0
!
!
dial-peer voice 2 pots
preference 2
 destination-pattern T
incoming called-number .
 direct-inward-dial
 port 2/1
!
!Also fix you duplex mis match issue
!You leave cisco IP phones as auto duplex & speed
!
interface FastEthernet0/0
no full-duplex

Hi,

Thank you Alex for your Help, the card work well now.

However, when we put a call we don't understand what our correspondant saying and he don't understand what we are saying too.

We have 14 phones, and it is about 5 phones.

Regards,

Aristide

Hi Aristide,

Glad to hear you have got connectivity.

Sorry to hear you have voice quality issues.

Are you hearing garbled, tinny ,metalic sounding speach?

On ISDN/BRI this is usually caused by the compand-type under
the voice-port config.

You could try

!
voice-port x/x
no compand-type a-law
!

Then make a test call to see if it helps.

Hope this helps
Regards
Alex
