VLAN in 1841 & 2960

I have 2 cisco 2960 switches which are cascaded to each other using the uplink ports. I have a cisco 1841 router with 2 ports as well 1 port is connected to my Lan and 1 to WAN natting is also enabled on the router. I just want to make Vlans using virtual interface, but not sure about it plz let me know would it help.

Re: VLAN in 1841 & 2960

Just to clarify, your physical setup is:

1841 -> 2960#1 -> 2960#2

If this is the case, then it's basically router on a stick.

Subinterfaces on the router's ethernet interface - 1 per Vlan on the switches. Trunk the lead switch to the router, trunk the two switches between eachother, ensure Vlan SVI's are configured on switches, ensure the router can route between the two Vlans somehow.

Re: VLAN in 1841 & 2960

What you are trying to do is called a "Router on a stick" configuration. Here's a link that explains how to do this. The platforms aren't the same but the concepts and configurations will be similar. I believe the 2960s only support 802.1q so for your encap you'll need to use 802.1q. Hope this helps.
