Re: VLAN Information

Thanx Friend ,

exactly what i want is the name of the switch who gives my existing switch it's VLAN not it's IP address.

Re: VLAN Information

Hi

You can only get the name if you have an entry for the IP address in your DNS.

CDP would show you the name but you would have to be lucky enough to be on a switch that is connected to the root bridge.

Re: VLAN Information

Hi Jon,

Thanx for your answer , assume that the existing switch connected directly to 2 switches and one of them is root bridge , so show cdp neighbors detail command will display the ID ( hostname ) for the connected switches and their's ip addresses not MAC address to trace the root bridge , so if the root bridge doesn't have an ip address????!!!

Re: VLAN Information

Hi Ibrahim,

you will not get the name of switch until unless you are using DNS

or If you are trying to figure out if this possible then I can suggest you one thing, if CDP is enabled :-

trace the mac-address of switch and use show cdp command set to check the out the hostname.
