Vlan problem

pushpak.lele
Level 1
Level 1

we have one catalyst 2950 switch on which we created 4 vlans. e.g (vlan10,vlan20,vlan 30,vlan40)

Each vlan is having 4 ports in it. If i give no shut command for vlan 10 it comes up but vlan 40 goes down again if i give no shut command for vlan 40 it comes up but vlan 10 goes down

The same case is happening for every created vlans.

What could be the problem?

Please guide us fo the same.

Hi

The 2950 is a lyer 2 switch only. You can create your 4 vlans at Layer 2 but you can only have one L3 vlan interface up at any one time.

The L3 vlan interface on the 2950 is used purely for management of the switch. If you want to route between the vlans you need to either

1) Use a router and do routing on a stick with a trunk link from the 2960 to the router.

2) Use a layer 3 switch
