VLAN's in Cisco 3750 doesnt work properly with HP4204vl

Hi,
I just recently install 2x Cisco 3750G series stacked and configured VLANs on it. My currently environment is totally using HP switches with VLAN’s and inter VLAN routing. We have 2 HP4204vl, one in server room A and the other located in server room B. The HP4204vl in server room B is doing the inter-VLAN routing. The 2 Cisco 3750G (stacked) is located on server room A and there is an uplink to the HP4204vl in server room A (port A24 on HP and port interface GigabitEthernet2/0/24 on Cisco)
When I plug in my connection to any port on the Cisco, I manage to acquire an IP address on VLAN 1 subnet from the DHCP server located on VLAN 2. However, when I change that port to belong to VLAN 2 (my server VLAN) I couldn’t acquire an IP address. I got some other VLAN’s configured on the Cisco box that will need to acquire network address from the DHCP server located in VLAN2.
Gradually we will then move the inter-vlan routing to the 3750. But for the time being we just want to hook in the stacked Cisco equipments and just do switching and VLAN’s. Some VLANS on he Cisco box doesn't need to propagate to the HP environment
I have worked with Cisco router doing inter-VLAN routing for VLAN’s on HP switches, but not HP doing inter-vlan routing for Cisco switches.
I must have missed something. Am attaching herewith my configuration on the HP4204vl and Cisco in server room A. If needed, I can post the HP4204vl in server room B i.e inter-vlan router

Hope someone helps

I'm not happy with you vlan configuration.

please add for every interface vlan you configured in the cisco, a vlan to the vlan database.

Just:

conf t

# vlan x name abc

#

Or try to just use the necessary vlans on the trunk. I rember you can prevent vlans to on a port on hp? also you can disallow vlans on cisco trunk

switchport trunk vlan remove x,y,z

If it not helps post a show interface 2/0/24 switchport

also try to let dtp active and use not the switchport trunk noneogiate, just a try...

Thats all ideas for today, it's late here, see you tomorrow..

not sure if this would help , but cisco switches are running PVST where as HP doesn't support it so I would say change the stp mode on cisco to rstp.

Any helpers out there ? Really need this up an running

Check out the IP HELPER-ADDRESS configuration part in the below mentioned link :-

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750/software/release/12.2_25_sec/configuration/guide/swdhcp82.html

Hope it helps

Manish

My L3 switch (HP4204vl) in server room B is handling that perfectly. I can connect any machine on any port on the HP4204vl in server room A and it can get its network configuration from the DHCP server. My cincern are the equipments connected to the Cisco box. It seems like VLAN tagging/trunk doesnt work properly

Hi, please post a "sh int trunk"  and sh cdp neigh detail  from the Cisco, I know HP supports cdp. I also think it is a trunk problem.

Did you configure VLAN 2 on the switch als VLAN and not only as an interface..I'm not sure if just a interface will work without a vlan config, but let me ask the stupid question . maybe post also a show vlan.

Uhhh after a review I see you forgott to set the tunk on the cisco.

I think that is the key

"switchport mode trunk"

On interace 2/0/24

you just set the encapsulation

Mr. Helmer just scored a perfect 10 out 10 ...

Just add in the following to the interface:

interface GigabitEthernet2/0/24
description LINK TO HP4204vl
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
switchport nonegotiate

CSR# show interfaces trunk

Sorry I did that configuration yesterday but it didnt solve the problem

I also add in vlan 28, 29,30,31 and notice that it doesnt show up on the show VLAN output

attached lastest configuration as well as rough topology diagram and sh spanning tree detail from both devices.

Thanks

I manage to sort out the issue

Reconfigure the switch and create "VLAN" instead of "Interface VLAN". Also I change the STP mode to MST as my HP's are using MST. Addition to that I configure cross-stack etherchannel for link redundancy and trunk at the HP side. WOrks okay now

Thanks for all your pointers
