Hi All,
I have 2 6509 (running with HSRP) which is currently in production and will be migrated to VSS. Now my question is if I convert my 2 6509 switches (switch1 and switch2) to VSS, is the configuration on both switches retain or only switch1 will retain and switch2 configuration will be remove? thanks in advance.
cheers,
reymon

Hello Reymon,
you can see the migration to VSS in this way.
the two boxes will become a single system so for example HSRP will not be necessary anymore.
And you will need a single ip address for each SVI vlan interface.

Hi Giuseppe,
Thanks for your fast reply. But I just want to confirm if my running configuration on switch2 will be remove automatically or not upon converting the switch1 and switch2 to VSS mode?..
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,

Hello Reymon,
When you convert two standalone switches into one VSS, all non-VSL configuration settings on the standby chassis will revert to the default configuration.
the suggested procedure is:
To convert two standalone chassis into a VSS, you perform the following major activities:
â¢Save the standalone configuration files.
â¢Configure SSO and NSF on each chassis.
â¢Configure each chassis as a VSS.
â¢Convert to virtual switching system.
â¢Configure the peer VSL information.
so the non-standard config of chassis2 will be removed when it finds out to be the standby of the VSS pair so after last step of the procedure reported above.
However, it is a good idea to backup existing configurations.
Hope to help

Hello Guys,
I am using two 6504E switches and want to configure VSS but i have some confusions. I am following cisco Documentation.
And got stuck on this command.
Step 4 Switch-1(config)# router routing_protocol processID
In my case, right now both switches are configured standalone, connected with each other. Switch one is using the static route towards firewall.
Please advice what to write on this command.
Thanks
