Hello,

We have two 6500 & are trying to create VSS for this.

Below are the configurations on both switches;

Switch1:-

switch virtual domain 100

switch mode virtual

switch 1 priority 110

interface Port-channel1

description VSL to Switch2

no switchport

no ip address

no platform qos channel-consistency

switch virtual link 1

interface TenGigabitEthernet1/5/4

no switchport

no ip address

no cdp enable

channel-group 1 mode on

!

interface TenGigabitEthernet1/5/5

no switchport

no ip address

no cdp enable

channel-group 1 mode on

sh switch virtual

Switch mode                  : Virtual Switch

Virtual switch domain number : 100

Local switch number          : 1

Local switch operational role: Virtual Switch Active

sh switch virtual link port-channel

Flags:  D - down        P - bundled in port-channel

        I - stand-alone s - suspended

        H - Hot-standby (LACP only)

        R - Layer3      S - Layer2

U - in use      N - not in use, no aggregation

f - failed to allocate aggregator

M - not in use, no aggregation due to minimum links not met

m - not in use, port not aggregated due to minimum links not met

        u - unsuitable for bundling

        d - default port

w - waiting to be aggregated

Group  Port-channel  Protocol    Ports

------+-------------+-----------+-------------------

1      Po1(RD)          -        Te1/5/4(D)     Te1/5/5(D)

=============================================================

Switch2:-

switch virtual domain 100

switch mode virtual

switch 1 priority 110

interface Port-channel2

description VSL to switch2

no switchport

no ip address

no platform qos channel-consistency

switch virtual link 2

interface TenGigabitEthernet2/5/4

no switchport

no ip address

no cdp enable

channel-group 2 mode on

!

interface TenGigabitEthernet2/5/5

no switchport

no ip address

no cdp enable

channel-group 2 mode on

Te5/4 on switch 1 is physically connected to Te5/4 on switch2.

Appreciate all help.

Once VSS is working the individual ports line te3/4 would be 1/3/4 1 for switch 1 3 for blade 3 and 4 is the port.

also on switch 2 the same port will be 2/3/4 2 for switch 2 3 for blade 3 and 4 is the port.

Also, follow the config guide to make sure the VSS working:

We are looking to do VSS with only one link between both switches.

is it different from the above?

There is no difference.  You can use one link or 2 links, but for redundancy it is always a good idea to use 2 links.  Also, you don't need this command on either switches:

switch 1 priority 110

Also, you did not explain the issue you have.

sorry, i guess forgot to type the complete thing.

We are trying to run VSS on two 6500's with single link between them.

i have used the configuration above, but the VSS doesn't come up.

doing a sh virtual switch only shows the current switch ; i.e switch 1

If we are using single link , on each individual port like te3/4 how would the configuration look like, as i see the switch virtual link command is used under Port channel.

please help in this.
