Hi
We were using a 6504 with a 10 gbyte link on a local carrier
All was working.
I enabled VSS and suddenly it ceased working.
We had VSS working across a different link no problem.
We were using this IOS -
s72033-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI4a
But down graded to this one
s72033-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI4
as that was working on our other link.
We have tried removing VSS link but cant ping and we do a show arp
it cant see the remote mac address.
Getting a bit desperate - anyone any ideas ?

Just to clarify.
You have had VSS working with this pair of switches already but with a different link. Now you have tried the new link it isn't working anymore ?
What module do you have the new link on ?

Hi John
We didn’t have VSS working but the link was up.
Once VSS was turned on the link stopped working
Unless it was a coincidence.
We have VSS working elsewhere but with a different
Provider (of the link).
Module is - CEF720 4 port 10-Gigabit Ethernet WS-X6704-10GE
Its very odd as though we can see the other end
On cdp we cannot ping it and when we look at
The arp table we see the Mac as incomplete.
On ospf we get to exstart /bdr
But no further.
Then in due course it times out.
We have disconnected the other member of the VSS stack
To disable vss and like i posted downgraded the IOS
To one that was working.
Next step i guess is to remove the config from the 6500
And rebuild it - get it to work without VSS and then
Try it again.
We have cisco support so if we can prove its not the link
We can maybe get somewhere .
Any ideas ?

As far as i know that module WS-X6704-10GE cannot be used for the VSL link. This is because this module does not have the ASIC that is required for the VSL encapsulation - see this link for VSL hardware requirements -

Steve,
Jon is right. You can not use the 4 port 10gig module for your VSL link. You can use the 8 port or the 16 port module, but there are limitations as to what ports on the 16 port module you can use.
