VSS on 6509/SUP2T - big problems getting it to work

Christian Bauer

Hi there,

I've got big problems setting up a VSS with 2 6509-E with ONE sup2T in each 6509.

I started configuring the 2 SUPs like this:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SX/configuration/guide/vss.html#wp1055688

VSS config in general is not very complex.

VSL is up (2x10Gig channel from the 2 sup-ports to the 2 sup-ports)

I connected 2 4509E with sup7e with 2 links (1 to sup2t-switch1 and one to sup2t-switch2)

I used port 1 and 3 at the sup7e (i also tried other ones... 1 port on sup7e on on 4712-card... 2 on 4712 card...)

configured PagP on both sides. I had also a look to

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps9336/products_tech_note09186a0080a7c837.shtml

I started with 15.0-1 SY1 advipservices - and had problems with the PagP channels.

only the port to the active sup2T is aggregated to the channel - the second

port toggled between stand-alone and waiting to be aggregated.

I tested a lot of things.. changed ports.. cables.. SFP+'s.. X2's... rebooted.. powercycled...

than I installed 12.2.50 SY1 and everything seems to be working... at first....

I did some test - played around with some failure-scenarios - and channels broke up again.

at the moment I'm NOT able to get the channels working..

Than I configured an IPaddress in vlan 1.

the 2 4500s also have management IP in vlan1.

I was NOT able to ping the VSS..

i did a "redundancy force-switchover" and - voila - ping is working.. (I did a lot of pinging - not only one...)

switching back to switch 1 - ping keeps working....

is there anybody out there who can help me?

Is VSS on sup2t so buggy that it is not usable? I can't believe that.. ok. it's just ED..

pleeease help...

many thanks in advance

Christian

No problem.

Hello @ll,

I got a new SUP2T on Thursday - and voila... everything is working fine now.

But anyway - thanks for your help and troubleshooting.

Greetings,

Christian
