VSS Switch showing very higu CPU continue

Hi,

We are facing issue of getting very high CPU utilization for the VSS Switch model WS-C6509-E some times approx 100%.

Attaching here show tech-support taken later after CPU normal along with show logging, show cpu sorted.

HCAINNOI01XXXCS0001#sh proces cpu | ex 0.0%
CPU utilization for five seconds: 100%/13%; one minute: 90%; five minutes: 91%
PID 5Sec 1Min 5Min Process
16406 91.2% 75.2% 76.2% ios-base
16426 1.7% 1.4% 1.4% udp.proc
16429 0.3% 0.3% 0.3% raw_ip.proc
16432 2.8% 3.1% 3.1% cdp2.iosproc

Please suggest me on this VSS switch issue  if getting some clue from the logs attached.

Jyotiraj,

Based on your show tech:

------------------ show process cpu detailed ------------------

CPU utilization for five seconds: 90%/16%; one minute: 58%; five minutes: 38%

PID/TID   5Sec    1Min     5Min Process             Prio  STATE        CPU

1        15.0%    1.9%     0.6% kernel                                 5h53m

      1   9.7%   42.5%    61.8% [idle thread]          0  Ready       58d03h

PID/TID   5Sec    1Min     5Min Process             Prio  STATE        CPU

16406    68.1%   46.5%    30.2% ios-base                              18d23h

Process sbin/ios-base, type IOS, PID = 16406

CPU utilization for five seconds: 65%/16%; one minute: 27%; five minutes: 11%

   9       16011      8529   1877  54.67% 19.20%  4.67%   1    M Virtual Exec

The biggest offenders are your telnet/ssh session because a show tech was executed and the [idle thread].

[idle thread] is part of the modular IOS service and should not present an issue.

If you want correct CPU reporting, I suggest migrating to a non-modular IOS.

Regards,

Edison
