Hi
Which IOS is better Modular or non-Modular?
According to my understanding, Cisco came out with Modular IOS in which they isolate services and hence when upgrading, without disrupting other services only the effected services we can upgrade.
Say two Switches running VSS.Both having only one SUP per chassis and running Modular version of IOS S72033-ADVIPSERVICESK9_WAN-VZ.122-33.SXI6.BIN
What is the procedure for upgrade? Can we use ISSU?
I believe unlike normal chassis ISSU upgrade, there will be downtime for when upgrading VSS switch, Please advise what the delay depends on
Can please share the doc for upgrading the switch.
Thanks

Rakesh

Hi,
ISSU works if you are not upgrading from one major release to another. Also it is not recommended to use modular IOS for VSS, as Cisco has stopped publishing it. All the new IOS images for VSS are now non-modular.

Hi All,
Just for your info,
When moving from Modular to Non-modular, the best method to follow is
1) Copy the new IOS image to be bootflash and change the boot system flash for the switches.
2) Reload both of them at the same time.
In terms of Config there are no changes.
