Hello,
I have enabled syslog on a lot of switches today and cleared down all the errors apart from this one below:
VTP protocol user notification: Version 1 device detected on Gi1/0/7 after grace period has ended
Most of the issues today that I have cleared are VTP issues or duplex issues which are now resolved. I thought the above issues woudl be easy to fix but it isn't. I have checked the VTP version and it is version 2 on both switches and the Domain and password are correct. I even removed the VTP info and re-added it all and I still get the above error, any ideas?
Thanks

Hi Andy,
Could you provide "show vtp status" from both this device and the device connected on port gig1/0/7?
Kind Regards,
Ivan

Hi Andy,
Is the one of devices actually a switch stack? If so, please send the output of "rem com all show vtp status".
Also, I see both are VTP servers. Is that intended?
Try to configure the following commands on switches:
switch#vlan database
switch(vlan)#vtp v2-mode
switch(vlan)#exit
Kind Regards,
Ivan

Hi Andy
Please force an update on your primary switch by creating a dummy layer2 vlan and then deleting it.
It should fix up your problem.
Please let me know, if this helps.

Hi all,
Sorry for the delay. I'm not sure why the other switch is server too and not client, but it seems they have set all their switches to server.
How can I force an update by creating a dummy layer 2 vlan? Will their be downtime?
To eaxplain things better one switch is a 3750 and has 6 2955 switchs trunking to it and 5 of them are fine it is just one 2955 complaining about the VTP, so I guess it is just that switch that is the problem?
Tanks

is it the switch still working as it suppose to be?
or that 1 switch really cause a network distruption?
If I were you, I will ignore the warning if it doesn't have impact on my network.
Also,
I notice on the troubled switch :
The Maximum VLANs supported locally : 250
have you check the IOS version?
maybe that switch have the lower IOS version then the others..
Regards,
Dola.

Hi Andy,
About triggering updates:
When you delete a VLAN from a switch that is in VTP server mode, the VLAN is removed from the VLAN database for all switches in the VTP domain. Since problem switch is a server like the rest of switches, creating any new vlan and then removing it will generate VTP updates for all switches. See the following guide for managing VLANs on 2950:

Ivan

Hi, guys, so how do I force an update?
The 3750 is running the latest IOS (as of a round a month ago) and teh 2955's are all running the same IOS and is also the latest for that model.
Thanks

Please see my reply in a message above.

Thanks, sorry I don't know why I didn't see that!
Thing is if I start deleting VLAN's I will lose connectivity, I am not accessing these switches via a rollover cable.

No worries!
As for the deleting VLAN - that is why it was recommended to first add dummy vlan, so that deleting it (dummy one) would not have any effect on connectivity.
Kind Regards,
Ivan
