VTP Securised with 2 password ?

Dear all,

I created a vtp domain with 2 servers. My question is :

If I have ten Switch's, half connected with the corresponding password of the VTP server 1 and half connected with the corresponding password of the VTP server 2, does it mean the VTP Frame which has been sent between all Switch's will be rejected if this one goes throught a Switch with the wrong password?

Best regards

Serge

Hi Serge,

In essence, you are correct. A VTP message protected by a password will fail the MD-5 checksum check when received on a switch that uses a different password. Such a message will be simply dropped without further processing and without forwarding it further. The only exception is the VTP Transparent mode which should pass VTP messages without verifying their protection.

For correct operation, all members of a single VTP domain must be configured with an identical password.

Best regards,

Peter

C         10.1.2.0 is directly connected, Ethernet0

C         10.1.7.0 is directly connected, Ethernet0

C         10.1.129.0 is directly connected, Serial1

C         10.1.128.0 is directly connected, Serial0
