VTP steps..

Are the steps for creating VTP and VLANs thereafter sequenced correctly:

1)Create vlan (vlan no and name) on VTP server(along with VTP domain, password)

2)On each switch use VTP client or transparent accordingly

3)Then add specific ports to map vlans on each switch

What if there are two VTP servers in same domain?

Re: VTP steps..

yes you are on the properstep for configuration...

If the two VTP servers are in the same domain and are connected by VTP trunks, it does not matter which switch the VlanDirector application changes. VTP ensures that the information on all VTP servers and clients in a single VTP domain are coordinated and share the same configuration.

If there are two servers with the same VTP domain that are not connected by trunks the configurations managed by the two servers may diverge. This configuration is not supported by the VlanDirector application, and it creates a discrepancy.

Re: VTP steps..

does the trunk means the trunk link between the switches?

does in transparent mode the switch can store vtp messages in nvram?

Re: VTP steps..

yes trunk means link between two switch which can carry the multiple vlan...

no in transparant mode switch will not synchronise its database with the vtp update

Re: VTP steps..

how does it go for client mode.doe sit save in nvram?

Re: VTP steps..

this will make you more clear...

With multiple VTP servers installed in a LAN, it is possible to accidentally overwrite the VTP configuration in network. If trunks fail, and then changes are made on more than one VTP server, the VTP configuration databases could differ, with different configuration revision numbers. When the formerly-separated parts of the LAN reconnect using trunks, the VTP database with a higher revision number is propagated throughout the VTP domain, replacing some switches? VTP databases. Note also that because VTP clients can actually originate VTP updates, under the right circumstances, a VTP client can update the VTP database on another VTP client or server.
