Hi all,

I have question here where Switch 1 is in VTP server mode

3550SMIA# sh vtp status

VTP Version                     : running VTP2

Configuration Revision          : 26

Maximum VLANs supported locally : 1005

Number of existing VLANs        : 10

VTP Operating Mode              : Server

VTP Domain Name                 : manveer.com

VTP Pruning Mode                : Enabled

VTP V2 Mode                     : Enabled

VTP Traps Generation            : Enabled

MD5 digest                      : 0xEB 0xEA 0xDE 0x00 0x23 0x6E 0xEB 0x00

Configuration last modified by 192.168.10.1 at 6-17-12 21:08:59

Local updater ID is 192.168.10.1 on interface Vl10 (lowest numbered VLAN interface found)

I created vlan 50

      then gave it name Test

*****************************************************************************************************************************

Switch 2

On client switch which has VTP mode set to client

2950B#sh vtp status

VTP Version                     : 2

Configuration Revision          : 26

Maximum VLANs supported locally : 250

Number of existing VLANs        : 10

VTP Operating Mode              : Client

VTP Domain Name                 : manveer.com

VTP Pruning Mode                : Enabled

VTP V2 Mode                     : Enabled

VTP Traps Generation            : Disabled

MD5 digest                      : 0xEB 0xEA 0xDE 0x00 0x23 0x6E 0xEB 0x00

Configuration last modified by 192.168.10.1 at 6-17-12 21:08:59

I do not see vlan 50

2950B#sh vlan

VLAN Name                             Status    Ports

---- -------------------------------- --------- -------------------------------

1    default                          active    Fa0/2, Fa0/3, Fa0/4, Fa0/5

                                                Fa0/6, Fa0/7, Fa0/8, Fa0/9

                                                Fa0/11, Fa0/13, Fa0/14, Fa0/15

                                                Fa0/16, Fa0/17, Fa0/18, Fa0/19

                                                Fa0/20, Fa0/21, Fa0/22, Fa0/23

                                                Fa0/24, Gi0/1, Gi0/2

10   VLAN0010                         active

20   VLAN0020                         active

30   VLAN0030                         active

40   VLAN0040                         active

However when on Switch 1 which is server and layer 3 switch i did

int vlan 50

now i went back to Switch 2

2950B#sh vlan

VLAN Name                             Status    Ports

---- -------------------------------- --------- -------------------------------

1    default                          active    Fa0/2, Fa0/3, Fa0/4, Fa0/5

                                                Fa0/6, Fa0/7, Fa0/8, Fa0/9

                                                Fa0/11, Fa0/13, Fa0/14, Fa0/15

                                                Fa0/16, Fa0/17, Fa0/18, Fa0/19

                                                Fa0/20, Fa0/21, Fa0/22, Fa0/23

                                                Fa0/24, Gi0/1, Gi0/2

10   VLAN0010                         active

20   VLAN0020                         active

30   VLAN0030                         active

40   VLAN0040                         active

50   Test                                   active

My question is why we need to config int vlan 50 command in order to replicate vlan 50 into to client switches?

Also second question is  vtp config revision number is still same 26 on both client and server even after i created new vlan 50 why?

Thanks

Mahesh

You should  not have to create a SVI to replicate a L2 vlan  to the client, could be a bug but a 3550 is end of life so it wont be fixed if it is .  Are sure the config revision number wasnt 25 before you  started the config ?

Hi Glen,

Thanks for reply.

I created 1 more vlan on VTP server 3550 switch .

It was not SVI VLAN.

This time config rev number incremented on all switches from 26 to 28 and i can see the vlan name on all client switches.

So all seems to be good now.
