What does the message "%CHKPT-SP-4-GET_HUGE_BUF: Client 33 buffer requested" mean?

Hello,

does anybody know what's the meaning of the syslog message "%CHKPT-SP-4-GET_HUGE_BUF: Client 33 buffer requested" I saw on a Cat6500 after configuring a monitor port?

Neither in error message decoder nor in the cisco search I found any hint.

Best Regards,

Thorsten Steffen

Hello Thorsten,

unfortunately the error message decoder does not provide information for all possible error messages.

the product error messages guide is here

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_2sx/system/messages/122sxsms.html

actually it is IOS version dependent

I don't see the message here too.

CHKPT Messages

This section contains checkpointing (CHKPT) messages.

The message comes from supervisor (SP). it has severity level 4.

GET_HUGE_Buffer means that the system has tried to allocate a system buffer of category/size huge.

You can check system buffers with show buffer

Client 33 buffer requested, here 33 might be a process-id that requested the huge buffer.

It can be just a notification of this event.

>> after configuring a monitor port

Not  easy to say if there is a relationship

Hope to help

Giuseppe
