Hi all,

I wonder what is a "forward metric"

SG1#sh ip route 100.1.13.0

Routing entry for 100.1.13.0/24

Known via "ospf 10", distance 110, metric 20, type extern 2, forward metric 2

Last update from 100.1.7.9 on FastEthernet5/1/0, 1w2d ago

Routing Descriptor Blocks:

* 100.1.1.9, from 100.100.100.1, 1w2d ago, via FastEthernet1/0/0

Route metric is 20, traffic share count is 1

100.1.3.9, from 100.100.100.1, 1w2d ago, via FastEthernet3/0/0

Route metric is 20, traffic share count is 1

100.1.7.9, from 100.100.100.1, 1w2d ago, via FastEthernet5/1/0

Route metric is 20, traffic share count is 1

in above text,

I don't know about forward metric 2

anyone knows about this??

Sanghee,

The forward metric is the cumulative costs from this router to ASBR. You are seeing O*E2 routes. If you changed to O*E1 then you will see the metric as metric 22(20+2). You won't see the forword metric value when using "type extern 1".

Toshi
