What is port provisioning?

According to wikipedia, provisioning is prepraring or altering the state of an existing port. Could someone explain the real time needs or scenarios to provision a switch port.

Thanks,

Mugilan

You configure the port BEFORE it's being used.

Think bigger.  You can provision a switch without even powering up the switch.   It's part of switch stacking.

So you configure the entire switch even though the switch hasn't joined the stack.  So by the time you turn on the switch, the ports are ready to go.
