Which 3750 model to use?

Greetings,

I need to decide which 3750 models to go with. I'm replacing a 4006 core switch.

Data center servers ~250 devices: workstations, soon to be IP phones and possible video, printers, cameras, POE.

I'm looking at:

3750E-48TD

3750E-48PD

3750E-48PD-F

but am caught up in the different flavors, ie IPB vs IPS etc. I'm reluctant to use vendors for guidance as they would not be impartial and I don't want to be indebted for final sourcing.

Any insights greatly appreciated!

Chris

Chris, the IPB and IPS are software feature sets, for example IP-Base feature set provides for QoS, rate-limiting but most importantly provides just basic Static routing and RIP.

Whereas the IPS or IP-Services provides with more robust class of software features such as support for most routing protocols like OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, multicast routing etc..

If you were using IPB at any given time you can upgrade to IPS feature software by purchasing license.

Thank you so much for the informative link and the explanation of the differences in the feature sets. I am comforted by the fact I can always upgrade to IPS if needed.
