trying to buy a used WS-C3550-24-PWR from ebay. But it appears there are two different physical size switches, the seller call them both are WS-C3550-24-PWR. Kind of confuse me. Please see the two attached pictures. I think the normal one is WS-C3550-24-PWR . But what is the other one? Thanks
A switch with inline power needs a heavier power supply. This unit is mounted behind the PCB, that is why a switch with inline power is considerably deeper. You may also note the indication "inline power" on the grey tab on the right front side. Therefore, the one that you indicate to be "bigger than normal" is a device with inline power, the other one likely not.
While the 2nd ("bigger") switch looks like WS-C3550-24-PWR switch, the first one ("normal") looks very much like WS-C3524-PWR-XL switch. This one indeed provides inline power but it is only L2 switch of the 3500XL series which has reached the "end-of-sale", "end-of-life" status quite some time ago.
But the picture is rather unclear so I may be wrong.
