Which platform for RSTP Root?

I have migrated from a CAT/OS 6513 to a new IOS 4928 / NX-OS 5010 environment.

My final task is to move the RSTP root bridge funcion from the 6513 to a device(s) in the new environment.

Do I move the RSTP root bridge function to the IOS 4928 or to the the NX-OS 5010 switches?

My configuration of switches is listed below.

     "Edge Switches"

Catalyst 4928-1 ----> Nexus 5010-1

                                       |

                                    vPC

                                       |

                                       v

Catalyst 4928-2 ----> Nexos 5010-2

         |

    " Edge Switches"

Your advice is appreciated.

  If the Nexus are your core routing switches then the root should be on those 2 switches.

Hi,

adding to Glen's advice, if the connections from 4928 to Nexus switches are Layer 2, then use nexus as your root, if otherwise use 4928's.

Hope it Helps,

Soroush.

Nexus OS supports only MST and RPVST+

I believe, Cisco's recommendation is to run MST on Nexus switches since It incorporate RSTP.

have a look:
