Why Is the ip http server command necessary to run CCA ?

Hi.I've been reading CCNA Voice and It mentions configuring the ip http server command In order to use the Cisco Configuration Assistant.

The CCA software Is Installed on a pc so why do I need to enable the router as a http server. It makes sense to me for the SDM but not for this.

Why Is the ip http server command necessary to run CCA ?

Hi,

I have not worked with CCA but I assume that this tool communicates with the router via its HTTP server, and also it transmits configuration commands via HTTP. This was exactly the case with SDM, too - it is true that it was often installed in the router's FLASH and accessed via the HTTP, but in addition, the SDM itself actually communicated with the router using its HTTP server. Even if you had SDM installed on your computer, you had to enable the HTTP service on a SDM-managed router.

The same should be the case with CCA.

Best regards,

Peter

That makes sense and reading further on I beleive It's referring more to CCP Installed on flash.
