i'm wanting to know with this setup, will a loop occur?

my thought is that the red lines (fiber) would be the main path, and the blue (fiber) will be the backup path

Only Red and Blue don't form any loop. There are yellow links too correct? if so, then there are loops.

HTH.

yes, the yellow links are just patch cables.

Hi,

Thanks to Spanning Tree algotihm there is not a loop, because the switch negotiate BPDU states and connection between switch 3 and 4 is broken (disabled).

You must carefully set the spanning-tree priotity and port-prority.

Hi,

You must take care with patch cables.

If they are fiber optic or if they are UTP Cable the results can vary.

Fiber optica cables has priority over UTP cable.
