WS-X6148-GE-TX mtu problem

Hi guys,

Above document states this module supports frame sizes upto 1518 bytes. However on 6503 I could not find a way to set mtu to 1518 instead of 1500.

system jumbomtu 1518 works but does not change the mtu size on interface. And there is no mtu command under the interface config.

Any ideas ?

How you got the number 1500?

Ping with packet size 1500?

Hi Mikhail,

Show int gig 1/1 just specifies 1500, similarly if I try to use the command ip mtu the range I can set mtu turns out to be up to 1500. Ping with >1500 also fails.

Ping is unaware about layer 2 overhead. So 1500 is the maximum size of data it can supply to underlaying protocol (Ethernet) to transfer. Ethernet needs then to add its own packet header and FCS to the datagram it gets from layer 3.

Which IOS are you running on the switch. the commands usually is:

Interface gig1/1

mtu

Paste the show version.
