I recently purchased a replacement WS-X6348-RJ-45 card for my 6509
platform. When I slide the card into the chassis the card powers up,
then after a minute or two it powers itself down. It does the same
thing if the "power enable" command is issued. The log shows only
the following output:
*Aug 6 11:06:44: %C6KPWR-SP-4-ENABLED: power to module in slot 7 set
on
*Aug 6 11:08:14: %C6KPWR-SP-4-DISABLED: power to module in slot 7 set
off (admin request)
I'm running IOS version 12.1(8b)E20 with 7 more of these same cards in
the unit functioning fine. I've tested the slot with a known good
card and it works fine. I have also moved the questionable card to
known good slot and it does the same thing. At this point I either
have a bad or incompatible card. The only reason I say incompatible
is because of the hardware rev shown when I do a "show module" is
quite a bit higher than the others as seen in the output below:

As you can see the card in question, card 7, is on hw rev 9.0 which is
quite a bit higher than the rest. What I don't know is if this is the
problem or if I have a bad card. I haven't been able to find a
matrix saying what hw revs are supported by what software revs.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
Thanks,
Mike

You've done your homework. It's a faulty hardware. Call Cisco and ask for a RMA.
