Hi, I have a C6009 with two WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE supervisors with CatOS and MSFC2. I would like to know if this supervisor supports 10 Gigabit cards or modules?

Does it support iSCSI and Jumbo Frames?

Any recommendation?

Thanks

Data transfer rate is 1Gbps. It does not support 10GB. You need Sup32-10GE or Sup 720-3B supervisor card with WS-X67xx cards to support Jumbo frame. Other switching modules such as WS-X65xx, WS-X61xx, WS-X62xx and WS-X63xx does not support ingress frames larger than 8092 bytes.

ok, so WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE doesn't support 10G, but it supports cards with Jumbo frames?

I have a WS-X6348-RJ-45, WS-X6316-GE-TX with this supervisor and apparently I can enable Jumbo in its ports.

But what happens with Jumbo frames if you have a port with jumbo enabled and other that is not enabled? what happens when this server with jumbo enabled communicates with a client which port is not enabled for jumbo frames?

Thanks

For line cards that support newer ASIC will forward ingress frames larger than 8092 bytes (support jumbo frames) without dropping it.

for old cards that support older ASIC, due to ASIC limitation requires that you limit the MTU size to 8092 bytes for example WS-X6348-RJ-45, WS-X6316-GE-TX cards.

  • The WS-X6548-GE-TX, WS-X6548V-GE-TX, WS-X6148-GE-TX, and WS-X6148V-GE-TX do not support jumbo frames.

The following switching modules support a maximum ingress frame size of 8092 bytes:

    · WS-X6516-GE-TX when operating at 100 Mbps
    · WS-X6148-RJ-45 and WS-X6148-RJ-45V
    · WS-X6148-RJ21 and WS-X6148-RJ21V
    · WS-X6248-RJ-45
    · WS-X6248-TEL
    · WS-X6248A-RJ-45
    · WS-X6248A-TEL
    · WS-X6348-RJ-45 and WS-X6348-RJ45V
    · WS-X6348-RJ-21 and WX-X6348-RJ21V

When jumbo frame support is configured, these modules drop ingress frames larger than 8092 bytes.
