Medianet Metadata

Hi all,

Are the application types supported by flow metadata statically defined within the switch OS and is therefore OS release dependent?

Or are they dynamically learned by the network devices and customizable?

Is there also a comparison table between NBAR and Medianet that shows pros/cons of each technique?

Thanks,

Ahmed.

Re: Medianet Metadata

Hi Ahmed,

There are specific software and hardware requirements for network devices to learn and populate a local flow metadata table that can then be used for consumption.

Devices that originate or produce flow metadata is dependant on specific software and hardware platforms as well.

NBAR devices do not share information about what it has learned about a flow with its upstream/downstream neighbor. Whereas with flow metadata, a signaling message containing metadata attributes is learned by metadata enabled devices along the media path.

regards,

Eric
