Medianet MSI newbie question - MSI between two endpoints cross-over cable connected

 Have a question w.r.t MSI deployment:

   Can two software endpoints (lets say two linux boxes with our software X that is MSI integrated) that are directly connected to each other via cross-over cable use the flow monitoring capabilities?  In other words there are no intermediary routers/switches involved (our actual situation is that the two endpoints are geographically apart from each other but we do not have access credentials or control over any of the hop devices and we want to use MSI purely point-to-point).

   case 1)  Endpoint-A   <===cross-over===>  Endpoint-B

   case 2) Endpoint-A   <==> R1 <==> R2 <==> R3 <==> Endpoint-B   (no access to R1, R2 & R3 whatsoever)

In both cases, Endpoint-A and Endpoint-B are both software running on either Linux or Windows; no real video endpoints such as Tandberg or CTS-1x00 are involved (because customer hasn't bought them yet from Cisco...we are assessing their network to persuade them to buy); pure software; we will generate the audio and video streams by replaying pre-captured PCAP files, mostly RTP over UDP.

   Is this possible?  Would appreciate an answer.
