Why IP phone need to know its VLAN ID?

Hi Fayiz,

First of all you are using IP phones that is running on IP addresses..and on the same switch port that is connected to phone and as well as to a PC..you need to differentiate the both ip packets so for doing that there should be different lan subnet for all IP phone devices and different subnet for data..so all the data packets will traverse thru the data vlan and voice packet thru the voice vlan.

So, in that case an IP phone should know what its vlan id is so it can send the packet to its corresponding vlan ...

So, whenever we using IP phane and pc on the L2 link then we will differentiate it by managing different vlans for voice and data packet.

Thats why it is very important for an IP phone to know its vlan id.
