Bi-directionally rate limiting Customer Facing GbE Interfaces on the GSR
With the GSR platform and 3 Port GbE line card, is anyone aware of a way to provide INBOUND/OUTBOUND "tiering" of these interfaces? While configuring CAR (rate-lilmite IN/OUT) is still a valid configuration command for these interfaces, I have been told that Engine 2 cards will not support CAR. Can anyone comment?
The Engine2 LC supports PIRC ( per interface rate control ) on certain versions where CAR is not supported. You can configure PIRC using a 'rate-limit input' command. However it is only applicable on IP and not on MPLS.
Engine 2-based line cards cannot support simultaneously all the Cisco IOS software features. To enable certain features on the Engine 2 line card, several PSA microcode bundles are customized. For instance, ACLs cannot co-exist with per interface rate control (PIRC) or CAR.
Here's a good doc on Managing Outbound Interface Oversubscription
