I have a customer who is demanding for mac address authentication to access the metro network. Basically its a broadband network having ethernet, cable and DSL connections. The end user PC is connected to any these connections. During initial registration, the user is asked for username and password. Apart from these parameters, the PC mac address has to be linked to this particular user for subsequent authentication.
Could you help me to identify which technology will be of help for this. Whether BBSM is useful for this?
Re: Broadband Metro Network MAC based authentication
I am not sure about authentication using MAC address, but you can probably combine the 'Port security' feature on the switch which will allow only mac-addresses that you want to allow on a port, along with other authentication methods for user authentication.
