Our company wants to deploy a MAN network by using CWDM technology and choosing in the core Layer 3 switches Catalyst 6509 and Catalyst 4006.
Our questions reffers to:
1. Can we use IOS on the the Layer 3 Switches for a CWDM implementation?
2. It is possible to use simultaneously CWDM GBICs and OSPF features for Layer 3 switching?
On Cisco web site it is very little information about this
Thanks for everyone that can help us

1.) If your switch/router supports GBICs you can purchase CWDM GBICS from Cisco and use then use Cisco CWDM filters to build a network. Since the CDWM devices are passive optical devices they are at layer 1 and don't care about the uppers layers.
2.) Again, the CWDM is passive and transparent and as a result will transport the optical data signals. Whatever protocols are utilized on the router can be transported without being affected by the CWDM optical transport.

A follow on Q - has anyone mixed equipment vendors and link types using CWDM?
I understand that the GBICs are OEM, so i cant see any problems using them in other kit if a link needs to be shared.
also, we are interested in running Gig Enet and fibre channel on the same CWDM path.
