What type of steps can be taken to determine why a PA-POS-1OC3 port adapter has a "Stable" PATH TRACE BUFFER even when there is no Sonet connected to the module? The port adapter is installed in a WS-X6582-2PA Flexwan Module. HW-MODULE reset came back without any errors however the same condition still exists.

Hi James,

This document explains how Packet over SONET (POS) interfaces on Cisco routers use the J1 byte in the SONET Path OverHead (POH) column to communicate information about the remote Path Terminating Equipment (PTE). The information contained in the J1 byte is displayed as the Path Trace Buffer (PTB) in the output of the show controller pos detail command.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk482/tk607/technologies_tech_note09186a0080094a7e.shtml

On some platforms,a router populates the PTB fields with information on the local interface, there is a problem with the POS link or nothing received from the remote interface.

Rate if it does,

Rgs.
