Question on EPL vs EVPL

Folks, from an equipment and configuration perspective from the service provider side, do you know how EPL and EVPL differ in the implementation in order to accomplish features described below?

It sounds like the main difference is that EVPL supports multiple EVCs and EPL does not...

Ethernet Private Line

Verizon Business Ethernet Private Line is a fully managed, high-bandwidth point-to-point transport service for Ethernet frames.

  • Provisioned over next-generation SONET infrastructure
  • MAN and WAN connectivity for point-to-point high-speed transport
  • Speeds from 10-Mbps to full-rate Gigabit for local (intraLATA) and national (interLATA) applications as available
  • Ideal for Remote Backup and Storage Area Neworking applications
  • Carrier grade, reliable, high-bandwidth data center connectivity for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery solutions
  • VLAN transparency allows you to control your routings with your equipment
  • Single-source provider with extensive nationwide presence

CONSIDER THIS IF:
Your business requires a secure, dedicated end-to-end LAN interconnectivity solution.

Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL)

An all-fiber optic network service that connects subscriber locations at native LAN speeds, EVPL uses point-to-point Ethernet virtual connections (EVCs) to define site-to-site connections.

  • Can be configured to support multiple EVCs to enable hub and spoke configuration
  • Supports a wide variety of EVC bandwidth options so you can incrementally scale bandwidth to meet your growing network requirements
  • Easy desktop control over bandwidth via the Verizon Enterprise Center portal
  • EVCs are offered in 1Mbps increments from 1-10Mbps, 10Mbps increments from 10-100Mbps and 100Mbps increments from 100-1000Mbps
  • Scalability – allows you to purchase and provision only what you need then scale bandwidth as you network requirements grow
  • Point-to-point EVC offer predictable performance for customer applications
  • Ideal for voice, video, and real-time data

Re: Question on EPL vs EVPL

Hello Marlon,

I agree with you: first service is thought for emulation of a dedicated point-to-point link

The second service provides multipoint capabilities emulation by supporting multiple point-to-point  links terminated on different Vlan-ids on hub side.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
