Can I use a L3 switch such as 3560/3750 to terminate a Metro Ethernet link of say 100 Mbps or do I need a higher end router for the same?If I can use a switch are there any performance tradeoffs?

What other features you are looking at to be enabled in the switch other than having only the MetroE link termination ...
