It doesn't sound right to me. AToM (L2VPN) and MPLS VPN VRF (L3VPN) are two different types of VPNs. L2VPN does not require an IP address on the PE router- end to end CE connection is purely Layer-2 based, however, L3VPN requires an IP address on the PE router- CE forms adjacency with the PE router.
For ALU concept they call "spoke termination" that we can terminated VLL or VPLS to VRF service (VRF act as gateway for VLL/VPLS). This feature mostly support for IP backhauling for mobile 2G,3G,Wimax. I think Cisco cannot support on this but we can adapt by using physical loop between xconnect to VRF subinterface.
