Cisco 7600 VPLS with ES40+ card.

Hi Freinds,

i'm trying to configure a VPLS back from ASR9K to 7600 routers, i read the configuration guide for 7600 ES40+ card for VPLS

but stil unable to get it to work, i'm posting this sample configuration part of the needed config:

ethernet evc VPLS

!

l2 vfi VPLS manual VPLS

vpn id 1000

neighbor 172.18.1.1 1000 encapsulation mpls

neighbor 172.18.1.2 1000 encapsulation mpls

interface GigabitEthernet4/1

service instance 100 ethernet

  encapsulation dot1q 100

  bridge-domain 100

!

vlan 100

!

interface vlan 100

xconnect vfi VPLS

i need to bring vlan 100 to part of ASR9K BD, from ASR9K full mesh is working fine.

any one to help me find the missing part of the configuraiton or provide sample steps for that.

thanks alot.

Mohamed.

Hi Mohamed

Maybe MTU need to be checked .. As you know MTU calculations in IOS is different than that of XR ; there is a difference of 14

Can you post ASR9k config

Hi Sherif,

it's normal configuration without any mtu modification under sub-interface:

interface GigabitEthernet1/0/0/1.100 l2transport

encapsulation dot1q 100

rewrite ingress tag pop 1 symmetric

no shut

!

interface BVI100

ipv4 address 192.168.100.100 255.255.255.0

no shut

!

l2vpn

pw-class PW-Class-TAG

  encapsulation mpls

   transport-mode ethernet

!

bridge group DC-VLAN

  bridge-domain VLAN-100

   interface GigabitEthernet1/0/0/1.100

   !

   vfi VLAN-100

    neighbor 109.x.x.x  pw-id 100

     pw-class PW-Class-TAG

    !

   !

   routed interface BVI100

Re: Cisco 7600 VPLS with ES40+ card.

Hi Mohamed

Is problem solved ?

From above I can see you are popping the tag "rewrite ingress tag pop 1 symmetric" at ASR9K but not at 7600.

Also not sure but wonder what the use of routed interface BVI100 configured at ASR9k since you are using VPLS

When i labbed a similar topology VCs were up but no data was passing

Thanks

Hello Mohammed,

Please, gather the following output from 7600 box:

show mpls l2 vc 1000 detail

Thank you

Re: Cisco 7600 VPLS with ES40+ card.

Is your ES card on the egress. Looks lime it is on the ingress. The ES card for VPLS must be core facing so that card can tag the BVI packet withe the pw tag.

Also looks like you don't have bridge-domain 100 created (or at least not from the config shown).

Hi All,

sorry for slow respond from my side and appreciate all your support.

all box's on the network has been replaced with ASR9K, thus no migration compatalibity issue now.

Sherif Ismail:  we are using a  routed interface BVI100 configured at ASR9k for Metro switches HSRP gateway,

the network is Ring, the BVI running with HSRP for Ring MGT only.

Mohamed.
