Hi,
When we configure the L2VPN L2 virtual circuit, we configure a far end peer IP and a VCID , what significance VCID has? Can we just put any value for VCID same or different on both the ends..
For FR , I see it being dlci
For dot1, vlan I see it being VLAN ID
What for hdlc or ppp?
Regards,
GP

hi Gaurav,
VCID will be the same on both the PE for perticular L2VPN or Pseudowire as it is identifying the virtual connection between two PEs. And yes normally you are taking DLCI or VLAN ID as VCID for your simplicity and for HDLC and PPP you can choose any numbers.

hi..
In L2 MPLS VPN, VC ID is considered as a FEC...so labels are genrated per FEC i.e.. per VC ID.... (in L3 MPLS VPN, every Prefix corresponds to FEC)..
HTH....
