Meaning of [V] in show mpls forwarding-table?

Hi all

I keep seeing for this command, [V] appended to the destination prefix.

PERouter#sh mpls forwarding-table vrf VRFName 172.16.0.0 255.255.0.0 detail

Local Outgoing Prefix Bytes tag Outgoing Next Hop

tag tag or VC or Tunnel Id switched interface

284 Untagged 172.16.0.0/16[V] 9093088680 AT2/0.20048 point2point

MAC/Encaps=0/0, MRU=1504, Tag Stack{}

VPN route: VRFName

No output feature configured

Per-packet load-sharing

PERouter#

I know (I think hehe) that the command:

sh mpls forwarding-table vrf ...

shows only locally assigned VPN labels

so does the [V] just mean that this route is either:

VRF Aggregate

VRF Connected

IPv4 received from connected CE ?

Or does it mean something else entirely?

Also is there any documentation (websites) on [V], cos I'm having a hard time finding info on this.

Please advise :)

Hi,

you are right, [V] indicates a [V]PN label, which was locally assigned by the PE.

I know (I think hehe) that the command:

sh mpls forwarding-table vrf ...

shows only locally assigned VPN labels

so does the [V] just mean that this route is either:

VRF Aggregate

VRF Connected

IPv4 received from connected CE ?

Perfect. Could not say it better!

Cheers, Martin
